Andre Keith Braugher was a film and television actor best known for his signature role as Frank Pembleton, a role he made famous on Homicide: Life on the Street. He guest-starred as the Pembleton character in the Law & Order 1996 episode "Charm City". He then went on to play defense attorney Bayard Ellis on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Braugher had also appeared in films such as Glory, Striking Distance, The Tuskegee Airmen, Primal Fear, Get on the Bus, City of Angels, Thick as Thieves, All the Rage, Frequency (with Noah Emmerich and Elizabeth Mitchell), Duets, A Better Way to Die, Soldier's Girl, Poseidon, The Mist, Salt, Batman/Superman: Apocalypse (with Tim Daly), The Baytown Outlaws, The Gambler and Outliving Emily.

For television, he had portrayed Detective Winston Blake in the various '90s Kojak telefilms, Dr. Ben Gideon on The Practice and Gideon's Crossing, Owen Thoreau Jr. on the TNT series Men of a Certain Age (with Scott Bakula and LisaGay Hamilton), and Capt. Marcus Chaplin on the short-lived series Last Resort (with Sahr Ngaujah and Robert Patrick). He had a brief recurring role as Dr. Darryl Nolan on House M.D. and starred as Capt. Ray Holt on the FOX crime comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine (with Joe Lo Truglio). He appeared previously in the mini-series events Thief and The Andromeda Strain for FX Network and A&E cable channels respectively.

He was married to actress Ami Brabson, who played his wife Mary Pembleton on Homicide and they have three sons. She has also guest-starred on Law & Order and SVU, namely as Judge Karyn Blake. They both appeared on SVU in "Child's Welfare" and "Justice Denied".

Braugher died on December 11, 2023, at the age of 61, following a brief battle with lung cancer.
