Andre K. Braugher is a film and television actor best known for his signature role as Frank Pembleton, a role he made famous on Homicide: Life on the Street and continues to portray defense attorney Bayard Ellis on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Previously to that, he guest-starred as the Pembleton character on the original episode of Law & Order in the 1996 episode "Charm City".
Braugher has also appeared in films such as Glory, Striking Distance, The Tuskegee Airmen, Primal Fear, Get on the Bus, City of Angels, Thick as Thieves, All the Rage (with Bokeem Woodbine), Frequency, Duets, A Better Way to Die, Soldier's Girl, Poseidon, The Mist, Salt, Batman/Superman: Apocalypse, The Baytown Outlaws, The Gambler and Outliving Emily.
For television, he has portrayed Detective Winston Blake in the various '90s Kojak telefilms, Dr. Ben Gideon on The Practice and Gideon's Crossing, Owen Thoreau Jr. on the TNT series Men of a Certain Age and Capt. Marcus Chaplin on the short-lived series Last Resort. He had a brief recurring role as Dr. Darryl Nolan on House M.D. and currently stars as Capt. Ray Holt on the FOX crime comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. He appeared previously in the mini-series events Thief and The Andromeda Strain for FX Network and A&E cable channels respectively.
