Ariel Baskins is a rape and torture victim of Javier, the brutality so bad she was left with permanent damage to her eyes as a result. A wrong suspect named Omar Peña was fingered and mistakenly identified by Baskins, with Benson, assigned the case in 2004, suggesting the evidence to Pena to coerce a false confession.

When another woman, Gina Logan, was raped, tortured, and blinded by Javier during Fleet Week in New York, Pena, who exhausted his appeals, was questioned. He again protested his innocence, and going back over the evidence, SVU finds the ascertainment to be true.

Baskins was questioned again, wearing specialized eyeglasses by that point, and she was in disbelief at first from hearing Pena's innocence. But when she saw Javier's photograph, she realized her own mistaken identity and was horrified by the consequences, dreading what would be next and devastated another woman was brutalized because Javier was still out there.

Pena's sentence was eventually overturned when Javier was cornered in a sting at a bar and arrested. (SVU: "Justice Denied")
