Stabler Munch Babes
Written By
Daniel Truly

Directed By
David Platt

Stabler and Munch investigate a string of crimes centered around a high school where four girls have decided to get pregnant together.

Summary[]

The grisly murder of a homeless man leads detectives to four high school girls with a pregnancy pact. After their pact is revealed, somebody drives the girls' ringleader to an apparent suicide.

Plot[]

Josh Galli, a homeless schizophrenic, is horribly castrated and set ablaze. While initially suspecting the work of vigilantes, the squad ultimately discovers the culprit is Alec Bernardi, who thought Galli raped and impregnated his sister Tina. However, she not only confesses the sex was consensual, but she revealed herself to be part of a pact made with her friends. Their leader Fidelia Vidal is also pregnant, forcing Fin and Stabler to find the father. However, as he is arrested, Fidelia apparently commits suicide over threatening emails, which are traced to Peggy Bernardi, mother of Alec and Tina. She is charged with the crime and almost convicted until a remark made by Tina made Stabler and Munch realize Fidelia's ex-boyfriend Max Matarazzo was in the house that night. On interrogation, he confesses killing her over rage of being rejected. Though cleared of the charges, Peggy is again arrested for assaulting Greylek. Tina becomes worried over being alone and pregnant until Stabler brings Josh's father, Tom, who offers to help raise his grandchild.

Quotes[]

Stabler: What's on the menu tonight?
Warner: Barbeque. A little too well done.
Stabler: Let me go out on a limb, here. No ID.

[watching Munch act like a crazy homeless man]
Stabler: I've got to say, the man does crazy good.
Tutuola: Good? That's the same old crap he says every day, only louder.

Benson: [to Tina Bernardi] Josh suffered from schizophrenia. You're not worried that your baby is going to be predisposed to it?
Christina Divola Bernardi: No way. What does "predisposed" mean?

Fidelia Vidal: Do you want to see the awesome stroller I picked out?
Benson: Fidelia, you need to screw your head on straight. This is a baby we're talking about, not a new shade of lipstick.

Fidelia: So what's your story?
Benson: Excuse me?
Fidelia: You have kids? You're pretty old.
Benson: I'm here to talk about you.
Fidelia: I bet you're jealous. Old chicks are totally jealous of me. Is that it? Did you wait too long? Tick-tock...
Benson: Fidelia, It's not an accessory, it's not a bracelet or a pair of earrings or a slamming pair of jeans. This is a living breathing human being you're bringing onto this earth.
Fidelia: You think I don't know that?
Benson: If you did you'd be petrified about your future. Do you know the odds of a teen mom finishing high school? Forget college, or any other dream you might have. Life as you know it is over. There's no going to the mall or hanging out with your friends. I mean you might see them but it'll probably be in line waiting for food stamps, or all of you going to the doctor trying to get an appointment at the free clinic.
Fidelia: Daddy, make her be quiet.
Gordon Vidal: That's enough, detective.
Benson: Do you know the health risks to babies of teen moms? Dyslexia, retardation, um, increased risks of blindness, cerebral palsy.
Fidelia: Daddy!
Gordon: Don't you blame my daughter. She's just a child.
Benson: That is my point exactly.

Benson: Babies having babies doesn't bother you?
Stabler: Babies killing babies bothers me.

[about Fidelia]
Donald "Dizzer" Zuccho: Whoever dissed that bitch into killing herself is setting me up.
Stabler: Well, don't get too torn up about that bitch. She was only going to be the mother of your child.

Munch: Folks, what's immoral is not always what's illegal. Peggy Bernardi may be a psycho, but she only used words.
Stabler: Right. Against an impressionable, hormonally volatile teenage girl.
Munch: So write a new law, but don't trample on the First Amendment.

Greylek: Your Honor, as a condition of bail, the people ask that the defendant be prohibited from using a computer or any form of electronic communication, lest any other young person's life be threatened.
Peggy Bernardi: Hey, I got auctions on eBay.
Judge Barry Moredock: Ms. Bernardi, unplug the computer.

[after Max Matarazzo confesses to murdering Fidelia]
Max Matarazzo: I've asked for forgiveness every night since, but God doesn't answer me. He says nothing. I'm the one who kept my promise. I am not the bad one. Why? Why won't he answer me?

Peggy Bernardi: [to Greylek] I told you I was innocent.
Greylek: There's a big difference between charges dropped and innocent. I'm sure your neighbors will explain it to you when you get home.
Peggy Bernardi: They can go to hell. You, too.
Greylek: Just try and wash the blood off your hands before you hold Tina's baby for the first time, okay?
Peggy Bernardi: You shut your freaking mouth! [attacks Greylek] I'll freaking kill you!
Judge Moredock: Bailiff, remove that woman!
Peggy Bernardi: [as she is being removed from court] I'm a good mother! I'm a good mother!

Stabler: Are you alright?
Greylek: Fine. Collar that bitch for assault.

Tina Bernardi: [to Mr. Galli] I'm so sorry about what my brother did.
Tom Galli: It's not about the past, Tina. It's about right now.

Background information and notes[]

  • The name "Fidelia Vidal" is ironic, as it evokes fidelity and life, while the character cheats on her boyfriend and ends up dead. Whether or not this was an intentional irony is unknown.
  • When Forensics Tech Ryan O'Halloran shows the lighter found at the crime scene to the detectives, he is holding it without gloves on.
  • When Stabler and Munch go to confront Peggy Bernardi in her home about driving Fidelia Vidal to suicide, the TV in the background is displaying scenes from the fictional video game NtenCity, which the son Alec had apparently been playing. This video game was a focal point of the season 6 episode "Game".
  • Goof: It should have been impossible for the ceiling fan to hold Fidelia's weight for as long as is stated in this episode. Furthermore, it would have been impossible for someone the size of Max to lift Fidelia's corpse a couple of feet off the ground to tie her to the ceiling fan.
