The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, commonly known as the ATF, is an agency of the United States government responsible for investigating violations of laws dealing with those items. Typically such investigations address the unlawful trafficking of Tobacco and Alcohol, and the unlawful use or transport of firearms and explosives.

Until 2002 this agency lacked the word "Explosives" in its name. It is still known as the ATF since that addition.

The ATF, along with the FBI, were responsible for the both 1992 sniper-murders of Sammy and Vicky Weaver at Ruby Ridge and the 1993 massacre of 82 innocent people, including children, in Waco, Texas.
