Carl Reger is the Manhattan Symphony Orchestra conductor who was having an affair with his leading violinist, Nathalie Dreisner, who was later murdered.

History[]

Nathalie’s talents and classical training from Juilliard left her excelling in her performance and esteem the orchestra. Carl started cheating on his wife Marian, one of the harpists, with Nathalie, saving assets in a bank in Switzerland so he’d start a new life with Nathalie after leaving Marian. Nathalie’s agent encouraged her to change venues, and she was planning on turning in her resignation.

When she was found shot dead that same day, Carl was arrested and taken to trial. The media and his colleagues were behind him due to his respectable status, and Marian refused to budge on her alibi. After much tension between the D.A.’s office and presiding trial judge William Wright, they reached a consensus in conducting the trial based on the given evidence, which was presented to Marian to successfully persuade her to testify.

Shockingly, Marian stated on the stand she killed Nathalie, as she believed Nathalie was still going to stay with Carl. After Marian pleaded out, Carl was released, it being left ambiguous which of the two spouses was really guilty. (L&O: ”Dissonance”)
