- "I have ludicrously high hopes that the 'Chicago' shows will be on for a long time because they have settled in, nobody else is making television like this." - Dick Wolf
The term Chicago Franchise is commonly used to describe a number of related American television programs created by Dick Wolf and originally broadcast on NBC, all of which deal with some aspect of the Chicago public services.
Shared people and resources in a common fictional setting are the connecting links between the shows, for example Molly's, a small bar owned by three firefighters, which has been frequented by characters from all four shows. Many supporting characters, such as police officers and paramedics are also shared among the shows. Occasionally, crossovers of main characters and/or shared story lines between two of the shows will occur. A major character has also left the cast of one show within the franchise only to join another.
