The NYPD falls under siege after the shooting of an unarmed black man.

In the pursuit of an SVU rape suspect for assaulting a family and raping their 12-year-old daughter, detectives from another precinct shoot and kill an unarmed black man, whose DNA doesn't match to that of the actual rapist. Quotes[]
- Benson: It was dark, they were in the projects, they were following procedure. They were doing what any cop would do in the situation.
- Barba: Any cop. Even you?
- Barba: So even our best and brightest are gunning down innocents.
- Benson: Terrence matched the BOLO down to his jersey. He ran.
- Barba: A black man in a basketball jersey runs when he gets stopped by the police? You're right, he deserves the death penalty.
- Benson: Carisi, bring in last week's vic. Show her a photo array. Go over every video from the shooting. Maybe he tosses the gun. And Rollins, where the hell is that DNA?
- Rollins: It just went down to the lab.
- Benson: So follow it. Test it yourself if you have to.
Background information and notes[]
- It is revealed Declan Murphy is the father of Rollins's baby.
- This is the first episode where Mariska Hargitay is credited as Lieutenant Olivia Benson
- When Barba asks Benson about how many suspects she has shot, he says her file says she has shot two, and Benson agrees that is correct. However, by this time, Benson had shot three suspects – Roger Silver, Eric Plummer, and Gordon Rickett (though Rickett was a non-fatal shooting).
