Daniel Brown is the husband of Andrea Brown, a born and raised Jewish woman who helped Daniel convert into the religion when they married. He's also the grieving legal father of Sarah Brown, an infant who was revealed to be murdered.

History[]

Daniel and Andrea had Sarah be cared for by Andrea's childhood pediatrician, Dr. Judah Platner, who was in her congregation. Judah soon diagnosed Sarah with Tay-Sachs disease, which was a shock to them both since the disease is most notably inherited between several ethnic groups, with Daniel expected to decrease the odds.

Sarah eventually died from what Judah listed as pneumonia on her death certificate, eventually burying her coffin. But a shock came when Sarah was found floating in the Hudson River in a cooler that as supposed to be weighed down. Since Sarah was Jewish in her DNA, Judah was found at a Tay-Sachs support group for his congregation. He refused to give the names of the Browns, but the certificate was found, and the parents were questioned.

A bottle of Imipramine, the antidepressant used to poison Sarah, was found in the bathroom's trash can, and when a warrant for Sarah's casket revealed it as empty, Judah and Andrea were arrested for murder, fraud, and desecration. Andrea took the blame all for herself to leave Daniel out of the trial, with Judah saying he didn't want to see another kid in pain in his clinics, and that Andrea was planning to kill Sarah with or without a warranted euthanasia.

When Judah and the Browns fought outside of the courtroom, Judah suddenly wanted a plea, which Cabot was too soon a sudden change and out of something to hide. Realizing Daniel was Jewish by conversion and not family relations, Daniel was questioned and confirmed Sarah wasn't his biological daughter. He knew Andrea had an affair the moment Sarah was diagnosed, but he never knew Sarah was murdered until after the investigation started.

This is enough for a conviction on Andrea, with the team wondering about the rights to die for children who have less hope for their own decisions. (SVU: "Mercy")
