Episode plot

Plot[]

Unit Chief A.D.A. Page Ferguson is found dead after plummeting off the roof of a parking garage. Her body displays signs of rape trauma, as well as a large number of cuts on her skin. Page's detective colleague, Sunny Qadri wants to help Olivia Benson investigate while Elliot Stabler is laid up with the flu.

Sunny initially suspects Angel Rivera, gang leader for the Latin Kings, whom Page put in prison. However, Benson thinks the murder feels more personal than just simple vengeance.

After performing the autopsy, Chief medical examiner Melinda Warner tells Benson that the cuts all over the victim's body look self-inflicted, and none of them seem defensive. Sunny doesn't believe that Page would have committed suicide. The detectives speak with the last person to see Page alive. Page's boss admits to Benson that Page and Sunny may be responsible for the disappearance of drug money being stored in evidence. Fin uncovers surveillance footage of Page, who seemed to be in a great hurry.

Benson suspects evidence tampering and finds out that Sunny stole some of the surveillance footage. She then arrests Sunny for obstruction of justice. Sunny confesses to stealing the tapes but only because she wanted to make sure that none of her coworkers at the Brooklyn DA's office were involved in the murder.

The detectives question more suspects in Lakeisha Watkins and her boyfriend Damian Young. Both were involved as informants to a case Page was working on. Benson believes that their stories don't add up. The detectives track the pair down, only to discover the both of them shot dead. A young boy tells Fin that he saw the murderer dump his gun in a garbage can.

A new suspect emerges, this time, one of Page's coworkers, who may have killed Page to get at the drug money. Sean Riggs and Page were involved in a relationship but he claims to have never hurt her.

Rivera's girlfriend, Gina, visited him moments before Damian and Lakeisha were murdered, which gives the detectives enough evidence to charge Rivera and Gina with conspiracy to commit murder. The detectives want to strike a deal with Rivera. If he cooperates, then they'll set Gina free, so that her unborn baby can have a chance at a normal life. Rivera agrees, saying that it was Sunny who gave him Page's location. Sunny confesses to stealing the drug money, revealing where she hid it, and she arranged Page's murder because Page was going to uncover what really happened to the money. Sunny is arrested by Benson and Danielson and taken into custody. Before she is Mirandized, Sunny threatens Benson with the prospect of facing a future of nothing like herself, but Benson retorts with her staunch disbelief.

Quotes[]

[as Benson, Fin and Sunny go over the case, Cragen walks in talking on the phone]
Cragen: There's nothing else to say. Liv? [as Benson follows him, Cragen resumes his phone conversation] No. No, I am not talking off the record. Call the press room at One P.P.
Benson: Press found out that Page was a DA?
Cragen: Yeah. And I am tempted to hand them Rivera on a platter. [Cragen slams his cell phone down in frustration]
Benson: He didn't do it.
Cragen: The guy's a creative killer. What makes you think he didn't orchestrate a hit?
[the phone rings but Cragen immediately hangs up without answering]
Benson: The Latin Kings would've done her and dumped her, not held her for hours and cut her up.
Cragen: It's personal.
Benson: Page was in an abusive relationship with a coworker. She showed all the signs of a battered woman.
Cragen: Okay, yeah. But talk to Rivera, cover your ass.
Benson: And yours too.

Sunny Qadri: I find out you ordered the hit, I will end you.
Angel Rivera: Anybody can get got. Even you.
Sunny Qadri: Bring it. Send a hitter my way. He's going straight to the morgue.

Tutuola: Detective Tutuola, I called you about those surveillance tapes.
Owner: Don't you people talk to each other? [to some customers] Hey! I'm watching you.
Tutuola: Just give me the tapes and I'm out of your hair.
Owner: I gave them to the other cop. Real hot number. You should tell her to come back and see me.
Tutuola: Let me guess: tall, brunette, accent?
Owner: And bedroom eyes. Just my type. Set me up?
Tutuola: She wouldn't let you touch her to wipe her ass.

Tutuola: [seeing Sunny scrutinizing a Bible] Found God?
Sunny Qadri: Didn't know he was lost.

Sean Riggs: [about Page Ferguson] I never touched her.
Benson: You said it yourself. You have no problem hitting women.
Sean Riggs: Who come at me! Okay, you wear the uniform. Females are the first ones to try to take you out, so I won't hesitate to put a broad down hard.

Christine Danielson: [to Angel Rivera] Your never gonna have sex ever again. At least not the consensual kind.

Angel Rivera: [to Benson] Come to kiss me goodbye too?
Benson: No, I'm here to throw away the key.

Sunny Qadri: Page owed me.
Benson: Her life? You told your snitch that she lifted the drug money and he killed her for it.
Sunny Qadri: Ask me why.
Benson: I don't need to. You're like every other lowlife looking for an easy payday.

Sunny Qadri: Page and I started together in Brooklyn. Few women make it that far up the food chain without stabbing each other in the back. We watched out for each other. We had a deal!
Benson: Until she decided to quit.
Sunny Qadri: Page used me to make unit chief. My contacts, my snitches made her career. And what do I get for it?
Benson: What did you want?
Sunny Qadri: I was supposed to make captain! She gets sick and wants to bail for a man!
Benson: You were jealous.
Sunny Qadri: She owed me. She doesn't walk until her debt's paid. So what? I took the money. I earned it.
Benson: I wanna ask you something: was it worth it?
Sunny Qadri: Talk to me in ten years when you have nothing: no family, no future and a dead career. How's that sound?
Benson: I'm not you Sunny, I'm nothing like you.
Sunny Qadri: Then why are you so scared?

Background information and notes[]

  • In the beginning of the episode when the credits are rolling Olivia Benson meet Sunny Quadri from Brooklyn NYPD. Olivia reiterates that the crime scene is in Manhattan and it is under her jurisdiction. However as they are standing on the roof looking down at the body on the car you can see very tall buildings in the background across the river. Clearly across the river is Manhattan, and the scene was being filmed in either Brooklyn or Queens.
  • Qadri asserts that Benson's career and personal life would be stagnant just like hers, but Benson is eventually promoted to first sergeant in season 15, then lieutenant in season 17 and finally captain in season 21 and also starts a family, adopting a boy.
  • The actress who portrayed Page Ferguson, Julie Basem, is also a stuntwoman in real life. In this episode, she does not do the falling stunt, but rather Nancy Thornton.
