Donald Albers is the domestic partner of Brad Mendel, who adopted a boy named Dylan and convinced Donald to join him in loving and raising the boy. Brad was murdered by Dylan's biological father, Robert Kelley, who then kidnapped Dylan.
After Kelley was convicted of first-degree manslaughter with an added homophobic hate crime statute over Brad's murder, Dylan's mother Celia Goddard, who wanted her baby back and inadvertently set the crimes in motion, pleaded with Donald to let Dylan know about her.
