Eddie "Ed" Asner was an actor who guest-starred on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in the episode "Monster's Legacy" as Martin Schultz.

Asner is perhaps best known for portraying cantankerous newsman Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970-1977) and its spinoff, Lou Grant (1977-1982 with Robert Walden and Nancy Marchand). He also starred on the TV show Thunder Alley (with Diane Venora) and has an extensive voice acting career including the film Up (with Delroy Lindo) and roles in the Disney animated series Gargoyles (with Keith David, Rocky Carroll, Rachel Ticotin, Clancy Brown, CCH Pounder, and Brigitte Bako) as the voice of Hudson and as J. Jonah Jameson (a character played on films and in animation also by J.K. Simmons) in the 1994 Spider-Man series (with Roscoe Lee Browne). He also voiced Ed Wuncler I in The Boondocks (with Sam McMurray, Samuel L. Jackson, Snoop Dogg, and Michael B. Jordan), General Araneus in The Magic School Bus, Risk Keeper in The Angry Beavers and Rupert T. Digzfield IV in Ballmastrz: 9009 (with Natasha Lyonne). Asner also voiced the hippopotamus puppet character Georgie on the show Dinosaurs (with Christopher Meloni).
