Biography[]

Before birth[]

Elliot Stabler, Jr

As a baby

There was a case in which all the children and their mother in a family were murdered by the father and husband. Elliot went home to check on his family and his wife invited him to stay with her. Elliot Jr. was conceived that night. (SVU: "Annihilated")

During the trial of Darius Parker, Kathy told her husband that she was pregnant. With a baby on the way, Kathy wanted him to come home and he immediately agreed. (SVU: "Screwed")

Elliot questioned if he was really the father since he and Kathy had dated others while separated. These worries came during a case involving a man finding out a boy he raised with his wife wasn't his biological son but he overcame his doubts. (SVU: "Paternity")

Midway through the pregnancy, Kathy was held hostage at knife-point in her home, calling Elliot who rushed over to evacuate her from the house. (SVU: "Alternate")

Near the end of the pregnancy, Elliot was seriously injured which caused him temporarily blindness; although it was scary enough about a baby arriving by the next month, the thought that he wouldn't have been able to see the child was terrifying for Elliot. Elliot and Kathy did not know about the sex of the baby, wanting to be surprised although Kathy thought she was having a girl while Elliot wanted a boy. (SVU: "Blinded")

Early life[]

Elliot, Jr.

At three years old

Eli's birth was a close call. During his mother's pregnancy, she was injured in a car accident. Detective Olivia Benson and a team of firefighters managed to get Kathy out of the car and into an ambulance, where she gave birth to Elliot, nicknamed Eli. Elliot was not present at the birth but was notified about the accident and quickly rushed over to the hospital to be with his wife. When Elliot came in, Kathy told him that they had a boy where father and son shared a loving touching moment when Elliot greeted the little man into the world and introduced himself as his Daddy. Eli was not an easy baby, as he had colic. Despite his unplanned start, Elliot and Kathy loved their youngest son very much. (SVU: "Closet", "Authority").

Kathy attempted to leave Elliot again when he went undercover without telling her, taking Eli with her but was stopped by Olivia who comforted her, promising that she'll have Elliot contact her. Elliot got shot twice and when he returned home after the case was done, Elliot stopped Kathy from getting up to get a crying Eli, insisting that he'll take care of him. His change of heart was due to an undercover officer who lost his family telling him his story. (SVU: "Wildlife")

At one point, Elliot was concerned for his little boy when some parents didn't vaccinate their children to prevent from getting diseases. When Cragen told Elliot that his son was missing, Elliot instantly thought of Eli, but it turned out to be Dickie. (SVU: "Turmoil")

In 2011, Elliot told Olivia that he has to take an hour off during lunch to meet with a preschool for Eli to start in the upcoming fall. Over the summer, Elliot retired after being on administrative leave for a shooting of a young girl. After being cleared, Elliot chose to retire and put in his papers.

Teenage years[]

Eli and his parents moved to Rome, Italy after Elliot returned to the police force in 2017. It is mentioned that Eli developed an interest in soccer while he lived in Rome, and that he was set to compete in a science and math competition at his high school before his father decided to stay in New York.

In 2021, Kathy and Elliot went to New York for Elliot's work. Fin notified Elliot that Benson was getting an award and they intended on attending the event. While in New York, Kathy was severely injured in a car bombing. Kathy eventually died of her injuries and Elliot rang Eli to let him know. (SVU: "Return Of The Prodigal Son")

Eli and Elliot moved back to New York following Kathy's death. Eli, his father, Benson and his siblings all attended Kathy's funeral. Eli took Kathy's death the hardest out of his siblings, going into a state of shock and breaking down crying at the end of the funeral while Elliot hugged and comforted him. (OC: "What Happens in Puglia")

Eli awoke to overhearing his father having a nightmare. Eli asked his father if he was alright, but Elliot shrugged off this episode and told him he was fine. Eli came home from hanging out with his friends just as his father was returning. Elliot spotted two masked men walking behind Eli and immediately told him to get inside. Because of his father, Eli avoided being attacked, but Elliot was jumped by the men. (OC: "Not Your Father's Organized Crime")

Sometime later, Eli spoke with a visiting Kathleen about his school life before being asked if he was really fine living with their father. Eli told Kathleen he was not moving in with Maureen, despite both his father and sister wanting him to go there for safety. Eli insisted on staying with his father, stating he needs him. Elliot speculated that Eli did not want to lose him as well. (OC: "Say Hello To My Little Friends")

Eli later awoke in the middle of the night to find his father hitting the wall but went back to bed, before being spotted after Elliot got a call. He was later picked up from school and his father had him go through Instagram because of a lead. Eli was worried when Elliot nearly got into a car accident. When Elliot returned home, he found Eli and his siblings along with Benson present. They all discussed that they all care about him and just want him to get help for his issues regarding the death of Kathy. Eli spoke up and told his father that he was not an addict. However, Elliot was not having it, stating that while he appreciated their concerns, he is perfectly fine and proceeded to tell his family and Benson that he loved them before he left to the disappointment of Eli. Elliot later mentioned that Eli moved in with sister. (OC: "The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of")

Three months later, Eli was at school hanging out with his friends before he noticed his father in the car watching him. Eli approached his father and told him it was good to see him again. Elliot offers to take him and Elizabeth out to dinner, but Eli politely declines, stating that he already made plans to eat at a friend's house. Eli accompanied his father and sister Kathleen and Eli to his grandmother Bernadette Stabler's home. The trio find the house in poor condition, on account of her firing the support worker that Elliot had hired for her and that she had not been to the doctor in a while and her declare she would rather die than go back there. Elliot and Eli then offer to take her in, and Bernadette agrees. (OC: "New World Order")

Eli stole his grandmother Bernadette's pills, which he gave to his friend. Bernadette became hysterical when she discovered that there were only three pills left out of twenty-five and told Elliot and Kathleen that she knew that Eli had stolen the pills, but Eli told his father and sister that he hadn't stolen them and acted casual. He later gave them to his friend in the school yard and he joked that nobody would believe Bernadette as she was crazy, but Eli stood up for Bernadette, firmly telling him she wasn't crazy and that she was bipolar, which shook his friend a bit. However, when Benson comes to visit Elliot, Eli leaves the house after being in the bathroom, but Benson hears something drop in the bathroom. When Benson goes to investigate, she finds Bernadette's pills and informs Elliot and Bernadette, which leaves Elliot feeling guilty for not believing Bernadette. (OC: "The Good, The Bad And The Lovely")

After the pill incident, Eli refused to talk to Bernadette and was grouchy toward his family. When he slept in one morning, Elliot went to wake him up for school, which Eli angrily complained about before criticizing Elliot for never being home. (OC: "Unforgivable")

Following the end of his undercover assignment, Elliot returned home, and Eli voiced how he was happy that he was back home. This brought a smile to his father's face. (OC: "Ashes To Ashes")

Unable to continue witnessing the Richard Wheatley trial, Eli ran away to New Jersey. He met a teenage girl named Mia Zabatino and the two went to her place in Fort Lee, where they swallowed pills and drank alcohol before making out. Eli woke up at 4:00 AM the next morning wearing nothing but his boxers and went to Mia's bedroom to say goodbye. As he was putting on his shirt and jeans, he noticed that Mia was dead. Feeling low, Eli left her building and ended up at a ledge near the George Washington Bridge, considering jumping off in an act of suicide. However, he was rescued by a police officer, who convinced him not to jump. Elliot and Benson go to pick up Eli at a New Jersey police precinct, where Elliot discovers that Eli is a suspect in Mia's murder. After much stress, Eli was acquitted of any wrongdoing and was released into Elliot's custody when it was discovered that Mia's neighbor Mr. Swafford had murdered her by the orders of Dana Wheatley to get revenge on Elliot. (OC: "The Christmas Episode")

When Eli was getting ready for school, he asked Elliot about a tattoo he had gotten before telling him that he had googled what it meant and asking for an explanation. Elliot told Eli he would tell him why he got it another time. A furious Eli yelled at his father, upset that Elliot wouldn't explain the tattoo to him before storming off to school slamming the door behind him. Bernadette told Elliot that Eli reminded her of him when he was young. (OC: "Change The Game")

Following a day at college, Eli came home for dinner which Elliot was making for him. Elliot told Eli that it was just the two of them that night but the whole family was coming over for dinner tomorrow before asking him if he had a girlfriend yet. Eli told his father that he has a girlfriend named Rachel who is from Colorado and described her to him. Proud of his son, Elliot and Eli shared a fatherly son hug. (OC: "Blood Ties")
