Freddy Ramirez is an oil rig worker and a victim of workplace abuse and murder.

History[]

Freddy is a Mexican citizen who immigrated into America without full documentation with his mother Lucy. Lucy got a job in maid's work under the employment of Douglas Kasdan, with his daughter Stephanie Kasdan loving the Ramirez's like family most of all. She knew Freddy since they were kids, and despite her father's disapproval, she and Freddy were in a relationship together without his knowledge. Freddy eventually grew to work for the Goldshore Oil company at their Hondo Field rig as a crewman. Freddy was the most passive member of the crew and a target of his supervisor, Valerie Roberts. Roberts put Freddy through degrading, exploitative harassment, illegal labor, and even sexual assault to avenge herself after the other men on site hazed and harassed her for being a woman.

Freddy was fed up and trying to compile evidence against Roberts, not just over the aggressive brutality she subjected him to, but her irresponsible increase of digs on site which increased the risk of hazards. Freddy prepared for a confrontation with Roberts in the hotel room she reserved when she'd rape him, calling Stephanie from a payphone to tell her he'd be late after leaving a bar where he was with his colleagues. At the hotel, Roberts had none of the threats of the exposure and beat Freddy to death. She then called her boyfriend, Zach Kinney, who specialized in diving, to believe her lie that Freddy died by accident and toss him into the sea near the rig using Kinney's diving boat. Roberts placed Freddy's helmet on the edge of the rig to make it look like he plummeted off drunk and swiped his admission card to add to the ruse. When he washed up on the opposite shore, the jurisdiction there took primary over investigating his murder.

Roberts was arrested when bloody clothes were found in the room she was assigned in the rig. Roberts' defense was that she fought Freddy when he tried to rape her, but Stephanie herself, when she was revealed to be who Freddy called that night, led the detectives to the texts Roberts harassed, degraded, and threatened Freddy with right on his phone, including nude photos and threats of deportation, which Stephanie knew about as well. When put on the stand, Roberts bitterly admitted to resenting not being seen as a woman and a boss and wanting to feel that. Roberts was found guilty for murder and imprisoned. (LA: "Hondo Field")
