As the SVU detectives pursue a high-tech kidnapper, Rollins reconnects with her troubled sister.

Summary[]

An underage girl disappears after following her older sister to a college party in Manhattan. The SVU detectives mobilize to recover the missing girl but find themselves thwarted by a high-tech kidnapper using the internet to cover his tracks. As the case hits a dead end, DA Barba returns with some unlikely help. Meanwhile, Rollins is distracted by the sudden appearance of her very troubled sister.

Plot[]

The detectives discover that it was only a decoy. As they search, Peter then appears on a live-stream and addresses Amaro while showing him Emily, who is with him. Benson notices Peter cannot see her and has Nick distract him by talking to him.

Benson and the other detectives try to discover where he is hiding. While chatting with Amaro, Peter claims that he never hurt any of the girls he used to make his videos, that Emily's family is irresponsible, and that he saved her. Peter also says he is not a pervert compared to the people who view his videos label each of them monsters.

Meanwhile SVU is able to detain Wendi and bring her in. They reveals they are aware that she is really named Jane Kalreiss, another victim of Peter. However, they tell her she is wrong that nobody searched for her and give her a computer. Suddenly, a video chat ensues, and Wendi sees her mother, Ellen, and little sister, Ashley, who are overjoyed to see her. Breaking out of her trauma, Jane cries with them and inquires about her father, but is devastated to hear that her father died searching for her and to learn she missed the birth of her new niece Janey, who was named after her. Overcome by emotion, Jane turns against Peter and reveals his location.

Meanwhile, Nick is still talking to Peter, who continues to taunt Nick and defends his abuse. Peter turns his attention back to his captive and is about to sexually assault Culphers when Detectives Rollins and Fin barge in, save Culphers, and arrest Peter while cutting the video short.

In the end, the Culphers family is reunited and thank the detectives before going home.

Quotes[]

Tutuola: You'd think the older sister would look out for the little one.
Rollins: Huh.
Tutuola: Sorry. How's your sister doing?
Rollins: Hurricane Kim? Ah, she says she's taking her meds. My family, it's just...
Tutuola: You know all families got stuff. My brother says my son's not welcome over to his house on Thanksgiving.
Rollins: Seriously? Why, 'cause he's gay? He thinks it's contagious?

Rollins: NYPD!
Tutuola: Open up, Merc!
Meric: What's going on?
Rollins: You Taylor?
Taylor Culphers: Yeah. Look, I didn't do anything.
Meric: I got a scrip for whatever you find.
Tutuola: We don't care. How old are you, player?
Meric: 21.
Rollins: 15 will get you 10, genius.
Meric: [stammers] She never said she was 15.
Tutuola: Well, she is 15. You're under arrest for statutory rape and stupidity, frat boy.
Rollins: Taylor... we're looking for your sister Emily.
Taylor Culphers: Wait, she's not at the hotel? If anything was wrong, she would've sent me something. She texted me last night. [checks her phone and sees a video of a naked Emily walking through a street] Oh my God.

Emily Culphers: [to Peter] I want to go home. Please, I'll do whatever you want.
Benson: Well, he picked the right victim. She's a people pleaser. She's not gonna fight back.
Amaro: Well, it might keep her alive.

Amanda Rollins: I can't have this here. I am a detective.
Kim Rollins: Oh, right, but gambling's fine, right?
Amanda Rollins: Actually, I'm done with that. In fact, if you'd like to come with me to a meeting, I think that..
Kim Rollins: Actually, you know what I would love? I was thinking maybe I could come follow you around. You know, learn the job a little bit. I mean, I wanted to be a cop first. You took that from me.

Rollins: Do you you think we can get Wendi... Jane... to talk?
Benson: Not gonna be easy...after all these years... she's fused with Peter...
Rollins: Well, let's just hope there's still something left of Jane.

Wendi: None of these girls had anyone who missed them...
Rollins: Emily's family cares - her mom and dad are going out of their mind...
"Wendi": They'll forget about her...
Benson: They haven't left the Squadroom all night, they're desperate...just like your family was.
"Wendi": My family?!...Didn't even report me missing!
Benson: Who told you that?
"Wendi": Peter did... so no one cares about me... no one loves me but him.
Benson: We have the missing persons flyers that your parents made...

Benson: Your family never stopped looking for you.

Rollins: Jane...
"Wendi": Don't call me that!
Rollins: Someone wants to talk to you...
Ellen Kalreiss: Jane... Oh my God!
Jane Kalreiss: Mom?!
Benson: They never stopped looking for you.

Cragen: [to Amaro] What do you say you take tomorrow off, Nick? See your daughter. That's an order.

Jeff Parker: Now I know where crazy comes from.
Rollins: You ain't seen crazy. Show up again, no warning!

Background information and Notes[]

  • First appearance of Amanda's sister Kim Rollins (Lindsay Pulsipher).
  • Fin reveals he has a brother.
  • Jane is renamed Wendy by her groomer/abuser Peter, as a play on the characters from Peter and Wendy. However the name Jane is also an integral character in the J. M. Barrie written universe, as Jane is the name of the daughter Wendy has when she decides to grow up.
  • When Rollins and Fin are leaving the child pornography investigator's office at Federal Plaza, Fin leaves through the office door first. When the camera angle changes to the view from the hallway, Rollins is now ahead of Fin leaving the office.
  • Despite numerous characters being from Rural North Carolina, not a single one has a Southern accent.
