Jaina Jansen was the wife of sexual assault victim Wesley Jansen and the mother of Mara Jansen.
Wesley fell for her mostly because no one else had much respect for her and believed her to be vulnerable. It is possible Jaina did love Wesley as he was the only one in a "small-minded" town that didn't judge her.
Not long after they eloped, she convinced him into moving with her to New York.
She gave birth to Mara, who was born with Cystic Fibrosis. She had to make pornographic videos with her husband to pay for her daughter's medical bills, sometimes bringing her daughter to work. When Wesley's parents wanted custody of Mara, she and Wesley threatened to kill them in front of Benson if they ever saw them again.
After Wesley was arrested and Mara was sent to her grandparents, Jaina tried to escape to Los Angeles, but was caught by Benson and Stabler.
She openly explained to the both of them that she was tired of her job and tired of having to take care of Mara. She believes she could get a contract as an actress in Las Vegas.
Jaine was arrested for the murder of her boss. He was blackmailing her into staying in the porno business. She claims she shot her boss in defense, even though his back was turned.
She explains to Detective Benson that they didn't know Cal, she knew he wouldn't let her go.
While she may have loved her family to a point, Jaina still clearly loved only herself and the dreams of money and fame.
