James Earl Carter, Jr., commonly known as Jimmy Carter, was the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, as a Democrat. Before then, he was Governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975.

In 1976, Carter challenged incumbent Republican President Gerald Ford and won, but lost re-election in 1980 to Republican Ronald Reagan. After his presidency, Carter has remained active in the private sector; in 2002, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in co-founding the Carter Center.

In 2009, Carter was with Adam Schiff in Tanzania while awaiting permission to enter Zimbabwe. (L&O: "Crimebusters")
