Leon Iliescu was a Romanian boy who killed his father.

Biography

Leon was born in Romania during the Communist rule of Nicolae Ceaușescu. His father was a member of the Securitate (secret police). Leon watched his father beat, torture and kill prisoners. He learned how to use a pistol and a whip from his father. He watched public executions and saw his father stand near Ceaușescu during his speeches.

He was brought to America, where his aunt and uncle became involved in his life. Later, Leon killed his father with a boning knife.

Leon's lawyer used a "cultural insanity" defense, saying that the brutality he witnessed as a child made him on the verge of murder.
