Dr. Leon Mayer is a criminal psychoanalyst specializing in dissociative episodes being responsible for violent crimes. He argues defendants aren’t consciously aware and they don’t even remember their crimes after they happen. Arthur Rigg wasn’t successfully defended from such an argument, so Lindsay Carson tracked Mayer down during one of his consultations and shot him, wounding him and killing bystander Mike Thompson.

It was revealed Dr. Mayer never participated in the appeals process because he perjured himself on the stand. He knew about Rigg nearly stabbing a hotel manager with a screwdriver because Rigg told him under legal privilege, proving Rigg remembered his crimes. It was brought up at trial to prove Carson’s motive, and she took a plea to a reduced murder charge.

Mayer’s career and legal status afterwards is left unknown. (L&O: “Expert”)
