Lillie Sands is the matriarch of her family. Her daughter Althea was addicted to drugs and highly violent to her own daughters. One went to serve in Iraq, leaving her son Damien and baby daughter Sarah. Althea’s other daughter, Traci Sands, ended up like Althea, in turn also becoming addicted to drugs and brutalizing her daughter Keesha. Althea and Traci barred Lillie from keeping Keesha so the two could get the welfare payments, but Keesha was removed by Child Services.
Traci killed Sam Register, the donut vendor who sold out the family to get Keesha taken away, then died in lockup. She had sickle cell syndrome and died from toxic levels of benecrene from an IUD she never approved. When the nurse responsible, Gloria Rhodes, was taken to trial, Lillie was revealed to have approved the IUD to stop Traci from having another child to batter. Rhodes lied to Lille there would be no complications.
Lille was granted immunity to testify against Rhodes, which resulted in a manslaughter conviction against Rhodes. (L&O: “Birthright”)
