Lois Smith is an actress who has appeared on all three of the primary shows of the Law & Order franchise.

Elsewhere, she had a recurring role as Gracie on ER, and currently appears on HBO's True Blood as Gran Adele Stackhouse. She has been nominated twice for the Tony Award for "Best Actress (Featured)"; the first time was in 1990 for her performance in The Grapes of Wrath, and the second was in 1996 for her performance in Sam Shepard's Buried Child. She is also an ordained minister and once taught acting at Juilliard. She studied acting with Lee Strasburg at the Actor's Studio, and is a member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago.
