Background information and notes[]

  • The title of this episode refers to what qualifies as a "major case" or not. Nichols fights to keep this case on his plate after it is found that the victim was not the daughter of a wealthy family (which would be assigned to major case), but rather a teenage drug dealer (which would be assigned the local precient's homicide division).
  • This episode is the first time that Detective Eames and Detective Nichols team up for a case. The real reason is that Julianne Nicholson's second pregnancy during the filming complicated her work and Kathyrn Erbe stepped in to fill in her role.
  • This would be last on-screen episode for Megan Wheeler (Julianne Nicholson). She is mentioned as retired from the police force years later in the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Gambler's Fallacy".
  • Goren is mentioned in this episode to be on a police case in Tennessee.
