Mark Dietrich is a recidivist rapist and murderer who was briefly suspected in the murder of his mother Laura.

Mark raped a woman jogging in a park, which assigned investigator Ted Marston framed four teenage boys for by extorting their false confessions. Mark would later go to prison for the strangulation death of another woman, only to be released after 15 years. He returned to live with Laura, but she investigated the rape he committed in hopes of reporting the crime.
When she was murdered, Mark was originally treated as a suspect until she was revealed to be looking into the rape of the jogger, and Marston's corruption was in turn exposed. With this, the two killers were pitted against each other in an arranged confrontation. They both confessed to all of their crimes, leading to Marston being arrested for ruining the cases and killing Laura, and Mark finally going to prison for the rape. (CI: "Monster")
