Maureen Manning is the activism partner of Joan Eckhouse in their organization, the New York Gay Rights Coalition. Maureen and Joan eventually started an affair, with Joan planning to divorce form her husband Sidney when the couple's daughter Emmy grew old enough.
Maureen was devastated to hear Joan and Sidney were killed in a home invasion shooting, with Emmy clinging to life in the hospital. She was questioned regarding their gay rights activism since "queers" was sprayed on the wall of the home's living room. Maureen provided no leads in that direction, but she did reveal the affair and Joan's plans for divorce.
It was revealed Emmy arranged for the murders to be committed by Jimmy Vazquez, with help from his sister Carmen Vazquez, disguising it as a hate crime to hide Emmy wanted her parents killed as revenge for Sidney raping her for months. (SVU: "Home Invasions")
