Detective Miguel "Mike" Sandoval is a young Narcotics Division detective for the NYPD who collaborates on occasion with the Special Victims Unit on their major and high-risk cases.

History[]

Sandoval first meets Fin after he's shot stopping a store holdup and a mother demands he find her daughter he didn't save when he himself was in Narcotics. Fin doesn't take a liking to him at first, but they warm up to each other as the investigation progresses. Sandoval helps Fin locate the girl, who was murdered and buried and a potter's field, as well as helping rescue her missing baby. They find her former friend Lizzie Jones who Sandoval arrests because she had her killed to support her drug habit and he forces her to tell him where the baby is and Lizzie says the baby is being held hostage in a meth lab. Sandoval and Fin find a lab that was also being used as a daycare. Fin goes after the drug dealer while Sandoval gets the kids inside to safety. Sandoval returns during the confrontation between T.D. and Fin. He rescues baby Austin while the drug dealer was distracted allowing Fin to knock him out. Afterwards, Fin thanks him for his help.(SVU: "Haunted")

Sandoval returns when Fin requests his consultation and assistance when the activity of hitman Liam Connors is tied to drug cartels, and the attempted murder of Alexandra Cabot. Sandoval joins the detectives in saving the life of a boy named Antonio Montoya, who was nearly killed after Connors shot his parents dead. Sandoval helped gain his trust by speaking to him in Spanish and offered support and protection for him when he was to testify at Connors' trial, as well as a target of other mercenaries and cartels.
