Dr. Richard Shipman is the doctor and murderer of socialite Joan Moore. He met her daughter Debbie Mason at a conference and agreed to dose her with MPTP so he’d get a cut of Debbie’s inheritance. Shipman resented Debbie backing out and gave Joan a final, lethal pill of MPTP, before David Moore put Joan in a coma with an insulin injection in her buttock because of her physical decline.

Shipman refused to confess, so the prosecution pressured Debbie to order an attempt at Joan’s revival with L-DOPA, despite Shipman’s protests the risks were too high. Hoping to stop the motion, he agreed to a plea and allocuted. Joan was given the dose anyway, and she instead died from all the drugs in her system.

Shipman was found guilty of murder and imprisoned. (L&O: “Stiff”)
