Summary[]
Stabler and Benson investigate the murder of a gay prostitute and are led to an Evangelical preacher and his family.
Plot[]
The detectives learned from Curtis' daughter Lucy that Richard was actually dating Jeb's son Paul Curtis. They believe Paul may have killed Richard and his father was merely taking the blame to protect him. However, Paul confesses to the relationship between him and Richard but denies killing him, while revealing that he thinks his father did so after previously sending him away in a attempt to "correct" his sexuality. Paul then requests the detectives take him to see his father so he can apologize for being made the way he is.
At the hospital, Paul visits his father and is surprised when Jeb instead reveals that he has come to terms with his sexuality, because he couldn't lose another child like he did his first son. With that, Jeb then embraces his son who is happy with the acceptance. When Paul brings up Richard, Jeb quickly tells his son not to say anything more that might incriminate him in front of the detectives. Surprised, Paul reveals that he did not kill Richard and he believed that his father did. With this, the detectives see that both father and son are innocent of the murder and were just trying to protect the other. Benson soon asks Jeb who else knew about the relationship between Richard and Paul. Jeb realizes in horror that it was his assistant Trent who previously caught Paul and Richard kissing while insisting he intervened. Stabler then realizes Trent was also the one who tipped off the media, because he was the only one who knew they were going to his house.
The detectives proceeded to arrest Trent who is unrepentant and reveals that he killed Richard for nearly ruining the reputation of the church and he framed Jeb because he felt that the latter was not living up to leading the church.
Hannah then visits her husband in the hospital begging forgiveness for her actions while Jeb forgives her. The detectives watch as Jeb shares a moment with his family.

Quotes[]
- Stabler: O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of Hell; but most of all because they have offended Thee, my God, Who art all-good. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.
- Stabler: [to Father Denis] So I confess to murder, what do you do? 'Say five Hail Marys, hallelujah'?
Background information and notes[]
- Elliot mentions he was trying to have a drink with Kathy in an effort to try to repair their marriage. He had first asked her to take him back in the episode "Dependent".
- Goof: In the reverend's bail hearing, he was accompanied by his "family," with two uniformed men, one Marine and one Soldier. The family member that was attired in a U.S. Army Class-A Uniform was wearing a nonexistent rank. The rank being worn was that of a Private First Class; however it was sewn on the uniform upside down. On very quick look, it could be assumed the rank was that of a Specialist, however, that was not case either. Additionally, there were more ribbons being worn by the Soldier than he could have possibly earned, given his rank in the Army. Example, the Soldier was wearing the ribbon associated with the Good Conduct Medal which is awarded for each three years service with good conduct. The rank of Private First Class is awarded generally after 2 years service and at 3-4 years service the rank of Specialist or Corporal is generally awarded. Therefore the Soldier had another year at least, before he was eligible for the Good Conduct Medal.
