South Carolina

The State of South Carolina is a southern state of the United States of America. It was one of the original 13 Colonies and a founding state of the Confederate States of America .

On December 20, 1860, after Abraham Lincoln was elected president, South Carolina became the first state to secede from the Union. South Carolina was one of the founding states of the Confederate States of America. On April 12, 1861, Confederate forces fired on the federal installation of Fort Sumter in Charleston, starting the Civil War.
