Summary[]

The case of a 17-year-old rape victim takes a strange turn when her family starts preparing a lawsuit.

Plot[]

The grand opening of a new hotel, the Thorpe Palace Hotel, is interrupted with the appearance of a young 17-year-old girl, Siobhan Miller, alleging that she was raped. Although a suspect, Russell Ramsay, is found and arrested, the disappearance of the person the victim reported the rape to leads the SVU team to look into the relationships of the victim's family. They discover that everything is not as it appears, and the suspect in the rape might be a victim himself.

It is revealed that Siobhan is actually a 23-year-old woman who used Ramsay as bait into getting millions of dollars from the hotel's wealthy owners. Ramsay is raped and brutally killed in prison, and Siobhan is tricked into confessing in detail about her actions that led up to that during her allocution for her deal on her other charges which she was only getting five years probation for. As soon as she's finished, Benson and Stabler arrest her while informing her that because she accused Ramsay of rape she is responsible for his death and is charged with manslaughter.

Siobahn is sent to prison for 15-25 years for manslaughter. Though Cragen is satisfied with this, Munch bitterly reminds him it cost an innocent person his life. Later, Munch informs Ramsay's girlfriend of his death.

Quotes[]

Tutuola: [taking down a suspect's name] "Terry" as in Terence, "Wilde" as in "Oscar."
Terry Wilde: [confused] Huh?

[after Olivia's mother dies]
Munch: Did you talk to Benson?
Stabler: Yeah.
Munch: You know, my brother's a mortician in case she has any questions.
Stabler: You have a brother?

Russell Ramsey: Uh, what did I do?
Munch: Aside from defying the laws of rhythm?

(Russell Ramsey has just admitted to having sex with Siobhan Miller)
Cabot: Please, please take the stand.

[about Siobhan]
Cabot: If I can get her on the stand before her wounds heal my opening statement will be "prosecution rests."

Munch: Did Ramsay ask you to come down here?
Shelly Leevak: I would've anyway. He looked me in the eye and he said he didn't do it.
Munch: He looked me in the eye and said that he had sexual intercourse with the victim.

John Munch: There should be a special level of hell for this pus-sucking, gangrenous malignancy of a mental amoeba.
Donald Cragen: Did somebody steal your parking space again?
John Munch: Ramsay just sent in his first victim to defend him against his second.
Cragen: From the statutory rape case?
Munch: Shelly Leevak, the sweet little thing he deflowered at 15. She's five years older but none the wiser.
Cragen: Don't tell me she's trying to alibi him.
Munch: Everything but. Explain to me how shmoes like us spend every night at home alone watching the History Channel while a scum like Ramsay has this nice girl's complete devotion. She's so convinced.
Cragen: Well, if there is any karma, Ramsay won't be doing much sitting down in Rikers.

Tutuola: He lives at 1634 Broadway.
Munch: Not unless he's one of the nuts lobbying for yet another extension of "Cats". That's the Winter Garden Theatre. [Fin gives Munch a look] Don't ask.

Munch: Front desk, room key, no forced entry. Put me down for $100 on "connected."

Harry Martin: Did you get the wrong room or is your rapist going door to door now?

Ramsay: Look, I'm guilty of bad judgment, all right? That's it. Siobhan propositioned me, I accepted. Now I get the crap beat out of me every day for it. You gotta help me.
Munch: You've done a stint before. Didn't you learn how to cover your back?
Ramsay: It's worse this time. Come on. Rape and battery of a minor? Look, I can't sleep, all right? I gotta stay awake at night so I don't get ambushed.
Munch: You should have remembered the pecking order before you raped Siobhan.

Olivia Benson: So, we move Siobahn from victim to perp.

Benson: [to Siobhan] Why don't you tell me more about your dead parents?
Stabler: They're alive and doing time. Investment scams, wasn't it?
Siobhan: I was ashamed. That's why I said they were dead.
Benson: You ashamed of your age too? 'Cause we know you're 23, not 17.

Benson: [to Siobhan Miller] You're good. But I've been taken by better.

Benson: What was going through your mind when you were taking that beating?
Siobhan Miller: How I was gonna spend all that money.

Cabot: The plan hinged on Ramsay showing up. How could you be certain he would?
Siobhan Miller: He's an ex-con with a loser job who likes young girls. I mean, it's a no-brainer.
Cabot: Still, something could've gone wrong.
Siobhan Miller: I would've Plan-B'd it.
Cabot: What is Plan B?
Siobhan Miller: [chuckles] Honey, no man passes up free sex.

Siobhan: [as she's being arrested] What are you doing?
Benson: Can't tell you how much I've enjoyed watching you hang yourself.
Siobhan: What? We had a deal. You can't go back on it.
Stabler: Russell Ramsay was attacked at Rikers.
Benson: He was beaten and raped.
Stabler: He was killed.
Cabot: Your false allegation put him there. Under the law, you're responsible for his death.
Stabler: And manslaughter ain't covered under your deal, sweetheart.

Cragen: (to an unhappy Munch) John we got her.
Munch: Yeah? At what price?

John Munch: Whatcha got there, Spanky?

Background information and notes[]

Benson Father Taken

Olivia talks to her father.

  • Serena Benson, Detective Olivia Benson's mother, dies after an alcohol induced fall. This isn't shown on screen, but Captain Donald Cragen informs Benson about her mother's death.
  • Munch mentions he has a brother who is a mortician. This brother may be David Munch who appeared briefly in "Wonderland Story".
  • Deleted scenes from this episode include the revelation that Olivia's mother had never been raped and had known all along who her father was, as well as a meeting between Olivia and her father, a man named Robert Spencer, who went to grad school with her mother. He claimed to be unsure whether his sex with Serena Benson was consensual or not. Eventually this was changed to the original story line of a stranger rape.
  • Captain Cragen went undercover as Mr. Mayfield in order to trap the Millers.
  • The detectives ask an officer to dust an entire hotel room for prints. Then they immediately start grabbing door knobs without gloves on and opening doors.
